Setting Up Email Forwarding for Google Group Emails
Follow these steps to verify your domain, check MX records, and set up email forwarding for seamless custom email integration.
- Active Gmail account with admin access to Gmail settings
- Richpanel account with Admin access
1. Verify Your Domain Provider Platform
To confirm your domain provider, visit WHOIS. This tool allows you to quickly search for your domain and gather information, including details about your domain provider and expiration dates.
2. Check the MX (Mail Exchange) Records
MX records determine the email server used for your domain. To check these:
- Go to the MX Lookup tool.
- Enter your domain name to view the associated MX records.
3. Identify the Email Setup Type
Based on the MX records, determine whether forwarding setup or a standard Gmail configuration is required:
- If the MX record shows
smtp.google.com
: This indicates the need for an email forwarding setup. - If it displays other providers: A standard setup can typically be configured directly via Gmail.
4. For Forwarding-Based Setups
If email forwarding is required, proceed with the following steps:
- Create a Custom Email Integration: Set up a custom email integration within Richpanel.
- Forwarding Setup: Set up email forwarding from your domain provider platform to ensure that emails sent to the custom email address are automatically forwarded.
- Update DNS Records: To complete the integration, add the necessary DNS records in the domain provider’s platform. This step is essential for verifying ownership and facilitating the email forwarding process.
4.1 For Forwarding and DNS Setups Step 1: Add Richpanel's Forwarding Address to Google Group
Purpose: Since Google Groups are not standard inboxes, they need to forward emails to Richpanel manually.
- Go to Google Groups.
- Log in with the Google account that manages the group.
- Select your group (e.g., support@yourdomain.com).
- From the left menu, click on “Members.”
- Click “Add members.”
- In the email field, paste Richpanel’s forwarding address (e.g., support@customer.richpanel.com). You can find this in the Richpanel email setup page.
- Set subscription type to “Each email.”
- Click “Add.”
This ensures that all emails sent to the group are forwarded to Richpanel.
Step 2: Verify Email Forwarding in Richpanel
Purpose: This ensures incoming emails are received and displayed inside Richpanel.
- Go to Richpanel > Settings > Email Setup.
- Find the email address you just connected (e.g., support@yourdomain.com).
- Click “Verify.”
- Send a test email to that group address from an external account.
- Check if the email appears in the Richpanel inbox.
- If it doesn’t show up immediately, wait a few minutes and retry.
This step confirms forwarding is working correctly.
Step 3: Set Up DNS to Enable Outbound Email via Richpanel
Purpose: This allows Richpanel to send replies from your branded support address (e.g., support@yourdomain.com).
To configure DKIM, TXT, and CNAME records required for sending emails via your domain, follow this guide:
Configure DNS Records – Richpanel Help Center
Make sure you have admin access to your domain's DNS provider to complete this step.
